Cardiac Services
Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
Euclid's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program helps patients recover from heart ailments so they can continue to lead productive lives. Staffed by a team of experienced health care professionals, the program is extremely safe, allowing patients to work at their own pace based on their health status and abilities. Patients who participate in the program are involved in:
- EKG-monitored and supervised exercise that conditions the cardiovascular system, strengthens muscles, improves endurance and lowers the risk of heart disease
- Educational programs and counseling that teach them how to manage their condition, thereby heading off future problems
The program is progressive.
As patients recover from heart problems in the hospital, they learn about their conditions and begin an individualized exercise program. Once released from the hospital, participants start a medically-supervised conditioning program, which includes EKG monitoring during exercise as well as education and counseling to help reduce the chance of further heart problems. After patients are stabilized and no longer require ongoing monitoring, the program emphasizes endurance exercise training and behavioral changes. In the maintenance phase of the program, patients are encouraged to make life-long behavioral changes that will allow them to lead active, meaningful lives.
The cardiovascular program also offers rehab patients the following support services:
- Smoking cessation program ("Smokeless in Cleveland")
- Weight loss program ("Healthy Weigh")
- Classes on low-fat cooking, presented by professional chefs
- Heart health screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol ("Healthy Heart")
